As the frigid Minnesota winter begins to slowly creep in, we are reminded that Red Bull Crashed Ice is right around the corner! After a very successful event in St. Paul last year, the city has been chosen to host another Red Bull Crashed Ice: Ice Cross Downhill World Championship.

In case you missed it last year (See: RBCI 2012 post) Red Bull Crashed Ice is the Ultimate Ice-Cross Downhill Racing Event:

“Take some of the best and toughest ice-hockey players in the world, a sizzling atmosphere, stunning surroundings, tonnes of steel, a huge cooling system and thousands of square metres of frozen water. The result? Red Bull Crashed Ice!

Since the first ever race back in 2001, Red Bull Crashed Ice has developed to become the most breathtaking winter sports events in the world. Ice-hockey aces hurtle down courses up to 500 metres in length in groups of four, shoulder to shoulder, as they fight it out for victory.

The whole race is held on a steep downhill track dotted with chicanes, jumps and rollers. Pushing, sliding, sprinting and wrangling are all on the menu as the athletes race down the course, but the rules are, in fact, very simple: first to the bottom wins.” (via http://win.gs/YP80op)

As the Pioneer Press puts it, “Like last year, the 1,300-foot ice-covered course will snake downhill from the Cathedral of St. Paul and challenge competitors to keep their bones intact as they drop more than 130 feet from start to finish.”

From what we hear, this year’s course will be taller and tougher:

A post about Red Bull Crashed Ice would not be complete without a shout-out to SixSpeed! Their 2012 Crashed Ice campaign has been nominated for “Best MN Creative of 2012” on the Minneapolis Egotist.  Read about their extensive involvement with Red Bull Crashed Ice, and you’ll why SixSpeed deserves the title: Best MN Creative of 2012!

Vote Now and we’ll see you on January 26, 2013!
