QR Codes. You can’t escape them. From billboards to bus shelters, these digital squares are here to stay. But not everybody cares. It’s just one more thing to ignore in the thousands of media messages we see every day. That’s why slapping a QR code at the bottom of an ad or poster isn’t going to cut it. In order to attract some attention, you have to engage the audience and take them to places they didn’t even know they could go.
One great example of this is the World Park Campaign that allowed visitors in Central Park to interact with QR codes and learn about Central Park from educational and cultural perspectives. With the press of a button, visitors could travel back in time and see what Central Park was like in the 1880s. Or they could relive memorable moments from famous New York films and TV shows like Kramer VS Kramer or Sex and the City that have all filmed right in Central Park.

Another cool QR code campaign was used by a Belgium insurance agency. AXA promoted the use of their new iPhone app by making a TV commercial that leaves the audience with a cliff hanger. Only those who scan the QR code in the ad can solve the mystery.
