As American Express puts it, “Between Black Friday and Cyber Monday is a day dedicated to supporting small businesses nationwide. Last year, over one hundred million people came together to Shop Small® in their communities on Small Business Saturday®.” The Social Lights are not affiliated with American Express, but we are big supporters of small local businesses. We encourage you to start your holiday shopping this Saturday at small businesses near you.

Did you know?
Statistics show that approx. 70 cents of every dollar spent locally stays in the community and is spent again seven times more!
One of the best things about Small Business Saturday – AmEx provides small business owners free marketing materials and online advertising opportunities (including $100 in free Twitter ads). Their site provides sample tweets, Facebook posts, emails, and door signage. Most importantly, the site spotlights small business success stories and rallies around local communities, while bringing the nation together to #ShopSmall.
From a social media standpoint, The Social Lights are super impressed by the recent social media campaign behind Small Business Saturday. Even though the campaign started in 2010, it has really picked up over the past year, to the point where it’s included in the Thanksgiving Weekend Shopping Trifecta (Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, Cyber Monday). We’re excited to participate in Small Business Saturday, and hope that you choose to support small businesses this weekend and year-round as well!
